Shane Harlan

Shane C. Harlan, 42, of Zanesville, climbed to Glory on Friday, December 26, 2025, at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center in Cambridge.
Shane was born on April 9, 1983, in Zanesville. He was the beloved son of the late Sharon Harlan. He was a 2002 graduate of Maysville High School and later earned a degree in Criminal Justice from Zane State College in 2012.
He proudly served in the United States Army, Demon/Dagger Company 1/87 INF of the 10th Mountain Division out of Fort Drum, NY and defended his country serving in Iraq. He also volunteered at the Duncan Falls Fire Department for 5 years and he was a faithful member of the Tree of Life Church.
A man who deeply loved the Lord, Shane lived his faith daily. Even when he had little to give, he gave freely—offering his time, encouragement, and heart to others. He was known for his ornery sense of humor, his love of people, and his enjoyment of gatherings with family and friends.
Shane is survived by his children, Anna M. Harlan and Elijah B. Harlan; his siblings, Shannon Harlan, Shaun (Mallory) Harlan, and Amanda (Josh) Baker; his nephew, Rhett Harlan, and Hayden Wolfe; his special friend, Melisa Minier; and his special foster niece, Kora. He is also survived by his spiritual family, Bruce, Marilyn, and Sierrah Archibald; his aunt, Carol Hammer; and several cousins and friends, too numerous to mention.
In addition to his mother, Shane was preceded in death by his cousin, Glenn “Dink” Hammer; several other family members; his loyal service dog, Xander; and a special combat brother, George Howell, whose life allowed Shane to be loved longer.
To Valhalla. Climb to Glory. To the top.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions directly to the family.
