Sharon L. Johnson, 76 of Zanesville, died 9:19 AM, Thursday, May 22, 2025, at The Oaks at Northpointe. She was born Tuesday, February 22, 1949, in Zanesville, the daughter of Daniel E. Burke, Sr. and Alberta D. (Green) Burke and was a member of Union Baptist Church.

Sharon was employed with Owens Corning and retired as an administrative assistant with the Longaberger Company. She was a very active member of the Zanesville Chapter of the NAACP, and served as treasurer for many years. Sharon could always be counted on to lead the singing of the black national anthem “Life Every Voice and Sing” at every NAACP banquet.

Sharon was a longtime member of Union Baptist Church and sang in the choir. She was a volunteer for the Muskingum County Center for Seniors and oversaw the lunch program at the senior high-rise. Sharon was active with the Gant House, where she also served as treasurer for many years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister, who greatly enjoyed the time she spent with her family.

Sharon is survived by her children, Kendra (Randy Gross) Portis, Mary Rusk and Cynthia Bynum; nine grandchildren; several great grandchildren; her brothers and sisters, Daniel (Emma) Burke, Jr., Kenny (Carla) Burke, Dana (Cindy) Burke, Kevin (Tina) Burke, Betsy (Mike) Carlisle and Claudia Burke; one sister-in-law, Sharon Burke; a special friend, Lynn Burke and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

In addition to her parents, Sharon was preceded in death by one brother, Jeff Burke.

The family will receive friends and relative from 4:00 to 5:00 PM, Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, where a celebration of life service will follow at 5:00 PM, with Rev. Wyatt officiating. Burial will conclude in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Zanesville, at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Genesis Hospice in Sharon’s memory.
