Shawger joining OHSAA board

Tri-Valley principal Chad Shawger is adding local flavor to the OHSAA Board of Directors, beginning a two-year term at the board’s first meeting of the 2016-17 school year on Thursday. He will serve as the Class AAA and East District representative.
Shawger’s new position with the OHSAA is unpaid. The non-profit organization governs 822 high schools and 900 middle schools in Ohio, including approximately 400,000 student-athletes.
A 1993 Rosecrans graduate, Shawger etched a hall of fame career with the Bishops before attending Bowling Green State University, where he graduated in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in secondary education. Shawger earned his master’s degree in educational administration nine years later from Salem University.
Shawger is a familiar face to schools across the East District. He coached multiple sports while teaching at West Muskingum before serving as head coach of the Rosecrans girls basketball team from 2004 to 2006, winning East District Coach of the Year and District 12 Coach of the Year honors. Shawger then served as assistant principal at Crooksville High School in 2006 before taking over as assistant principal at Tri-Valley High School in 2007. Shawger was named principal at Tri-Valley Middle School in 2010 until taking over his current role in 2013.
Though he is serving his first term on the OHSAA board, Shawger has been actively involved with the East District Athletic Board. He was elected to the board in 2013 and currently serves as president.
Shawger and his wife, Jane, have four children: Alyssa (16), Katie (14), Ty (11) and Jessica (8).
