Sheridan girls fall to Hoban in OT; suffer first loss

BERLIN, Ohio – The Sheridan girls basketball team entered Monday with a perfect record, unchallenged by nearly every opponent they’ve taken the court against this season.
Monday morning, they faced their toughest challenge yet.
On the final morning of the Classic in the Country Prep Showcase, the Generals met with one of the top teams in Division I: Archbishop Hoban.
The teams appeared to be evenly matched throughout the first quarter and a half, tied at 23 mid-way through the second.
That didn’t last long.
A three from Kinzie Miller sparked a 20-2 run to end the half, fueled along the way by three buckets from deep by freshman Jamisyn Stinson. Older sister Faith added a three of her own, plus some scoring in the post.
Despite taking a 43-25 lead into the half, the Generals lead was not safe. The Generals were outscored 35-17 in the second half as Hoban drew even. Jamisyn Stinson put Sheridan ahead with just over a minute remaining with a steal and a score. Hoban answered at the very last moment, with Karli Anker nailing a three to tie the game at 60 with just 3.1 seconds remaining.
Hoban carried the momentum of their second half comeback into the overtime period, outscoring Sheridan 15-8 and handing the Generals their first loss of the season.
Jamisyn Stinson led the Generals with 24, followed by 21 from older sister Faith. Bailey Beckstedt contributed 14 key points for the Generals as well. Hoban’s Karli Anker was the game’s leading scorer, knocking in 26 in the winning effort.
