Sheriff Lutz on Deputy Killed in Accident on US 22

Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz Wednesday confirmed that an off-duty
Muskingum County Deputy died from injuries sustained in a two vehicle
crash on US 22 near Fultonham.  Lutz says 21-year-old Deputy Zackary
Smith was hired by the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office as a part-time
corrections officer on February 27, 2017.  Smith was then moved to full
time June 13, 2017 as a Deputy in the jail.  The Sheriff says on April
5, 2019 Smith was moved to a road deputy position and was currently in
training.  Sheriff Lutz says “our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to
Zack’s family for their loss as well as the other families involved in
the accident.”
