Sheriff’s Deputy Injured in Maple Avenue Pursuit

The Zanesville Post of the Highway Patrol says a Muskingum County Sheriff’s Deputy was injured in a pursuit Friday night on Maple Avenue.
Troopers say that Zanesville Police were attempting to stop a pickup truck on Maple Avenue for traffic violations. Investigators say the suspect refused to stop and a pursuit ensued. The patrol says as the chase traveled north on Maple Avenue, the suspect crossed the concrete divider just south of Military Road and struck a southbound Muskingum County Sheriff’s cruiser that was southbound responding to assist. The driver of the truck and the deputy sheriff were both transported to Genesis Hospital. Sheriff Matt Lutz identifies the officer as Deputy Brodie Brewer and says he is ok. Lutz says the driver of the truck was arrested for suspicion of Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence. His name was not released.
The investigation into the pursuit and associated charges are being handled by the Zanesville Police Department. Once the crash investigation is completed, the case will be presented to the Muskingum County Prosecutor to file charges.
