Sheriff’s Office K-9 doing fine and back with handler

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A Muskingum County Sheriff’s K-9 that suffered from heat exhaustion has made a full recovery and is back with his handler.
At seven-years-old Drako is the oldest dog the Sheriff’s Office has. Drako was being cared for by the Muskingum County Dog Pound while his handler, Deputy Ryan Paisley, was on vacation. Sheriff Matt Lutz said that Drako was taken outside and because of the heat and anxiety from being away from his family he suffered heat exhaustion.
Drako was taken to a vet at Ohio State University where he was held until he recovered. Drako is now back with deputy Paisley.
“We can’t see anything that we’ve done different,†said Sheriff Lutz. “We’ve talked to everybody at the dog pound. They are very generous in doing what they do. They’ve always looked after the dogs for us. They don’t charge us anything to have the dogs there and they are familiar with handling the dogs. This could of happened anywhere. They are going to look for it in the future if Drako stays there again.â€
Sheriff Lutz said that Drako is doing fine today and that the pound has looked after the Sheriff’s K-9s since 1998 and this is the first time they have had any problems.
