Sheryl “Sherry” Johnson

Sheryl “Sherry” Tilton-Johnson, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and caregiver, passed away on December 22, 2024, at 9:10 PM at Gensis Hospital in Zanesville, Ohio surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born on March 7, 1958, in Canton, Ohio, daughter of the late Lloyd Tilton Sr. and Donna (McWhorter) Tilton-Alexander. 1 of 13 siblings, Sheryl grew up surrounded by her loving family.
Sherry married her beloved husband, Peter Johnson Sr., and together they shared over 39 years of marriage until his passing on March 30, 2016. Their union was blessed with 2 children: Stacy (Ray) Burt and Peter (Angelina) Johnson Jr.
Sherry’s love and devotion extended to her 6 grandchildren: Haly, Deric, Tykeyse, Machly, Taylor, and Hope. She was also blessed with 4 great-grandchildren: Malia, Mallani, Emery, and Addalynn.
In addition to her immediate family, Sheryl opened her heart and home to numerous children through her in-home childcare, providing love, care, and support to many families over the years. Chase and Emma, in particular, held a special place in her heart and she treated them like her own grandchildren.
Sherry was also committed to her community, volunteering at Y-City for many years while her husband coached little league.
She is survived by her children, Stacy (Ray) Burt, Peter (Angelina) Johnson Jr.; grandchildren, great-grandchildren; siblings, Debra (David) Blackstone, Robert (Luann) Tilton, Kathy Sowers, Brenda Hopper, Bernard (Edith) Tilton Jr., Mary Worden, and John (Kelly) Alexander.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd Tilton and Donna (McWhorter) Tilton-Alexander; her husband, Peter Johnson Sr.; siblings, Keith Alexander, Nellie Devoll, Lloyd Tilton, Jenny Tilton-Grant, Teresa (Tilton) Alton-Meredith, and Thomas Tilton; her sister-in-law, Karla Tilton; brother-in-law, James Devoll Sr.; and her nephews, Shawn Hopper and Gale Grant.
The family will cherish the memories they have of Sherry. Family and friends take comfort in knowing she is now at peace and reunited with her beloved husband, Pete.
Calling hours will be held on Friday December 27, 2024, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at DeLong-Baker & Lanning Funeral Home. Per Sherry’s wishes, a dignified cremation will be held following visitation hours.
