Shirley M. McAvoy (December 16, 1927 – December 13, 2011)

Shirley M. McAvoy 83 of Zanesville passed away at 8:39 AM at Genesis Select Care on Tuesday, December 13, 2011. She was born in Mikado Township, Michigan, December 16, 1927 the daughter of the late Ross D. Gillogy and Irine Meyer Gillogy.

She retired from Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital where she worked as Nurses Aid. She is a former Sunday School Teacher and enjoyed working with ceramics.

Mrs. McAvoy is survived by her sons: Timothy (Barb) McAvoy and Jeffrey McAvoy both of Zanesville, Sisters; Mary (Don) Hivnor of McConnelsville, Ohio and Patricia Anderson of Kissimmee Florida; two Grandchildren; Kimberly and Michael McAvoy and two Great-Grandchildren; Wyatt Williams and Carlie Nezbeth, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Paul McAvoy who passed away in 1979, a son Douglas McAvoy. She is also preceded in death by her sisters, brothers and other extended family members.

The Family is being served by the BRYAN & SNIDER FUNERAL HOME 2318 Maple Ave. where calling hours will be Friday, December 16, 2011 from 10AM until the time of Service at 12; with Rev. Chuck Norris officiating, Shirley will be laid to rest next to her husband at Zanesville Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers the family asks for memorial contributions be made to Genesis Hospice and Palliative Care.
