Slain Westerville Officers Laid to Rest

A large group of local law enforcement officers attended the funeral Friday of two Westerville Police Officers who died in the line of duty last Saturday.  Members of the Zanesville Police Department, Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office and Troopers from the Zanesville Post of the Highway Patrol paid their respects to the slain officers.  They were joined by officers from departments from all the across the  United States to pay respects to Officers Anthony Morelli and Eric Joering at St Paul The Apostle Catholic Church in Westerville.  Following the funeral a procession was held through the city as a way to honor the veteran officers.  Morelli and Joering were gunned down when they responded to a 911 hand up call Saturday.  Police have charged 30-year-old Quentin L. Smith with two counts of aggravated murder.  A second suspect, 30-year-old Gerald A. Lawson is facing charges for allegedly buying the gun used by Smith in the shooting.
