Smoke detector saves four lives

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- A smoke detector did its jobs early on January 27th and saved the lives of four people in the Village of New Concord.

Those were the words from New Concord Fire Chief Brent Gates. He said there was a fire in the attached garage around 1:00 A.M. Smoke spread through the house where the smoke alarm woke up two adults and two children. Chief Gates said the family ran outside the house and saw both smoke and flames billowing from the garage.

“If it wasn’t for the smoke detectors, it could have been a very different story,” said Chief Gates. “Working smoke detectors do what they are supposed to do, they save lives.”

The Village of New Concord Fire Department was able to put the fire out quickly containing flame damage to just the garage. There was no flame damage to the house and the family was able to return to their home.
