Snow Driving Tips

Driving with 3 to 5 inches of snow can be difficult and dangerous. Drivers should be aware of how snow conditions will affect their driving. Minor mistakes can cause major accidents.

"Two things drivers need to focus on – first you need to slow down, that’s a given and the second, is to increase stopping distance between the cars in front of you " said Trooper Wesley Archer.

Trooper Archer warns drivers that bridges freeze before roads and morning conditions are particularly dangerous. If you do start to slip pump your brakes and if you are going downhill switch the gear in your car.

"Always put the car in a lower gear, if it’s an automatic; if it’s a standard you want to be careful you do want to drop it into a smaller gear or lower gear " said Trooper Archer.

Another tip Trooper Archer has is that tires should have a lot of tread and should not be balding or old. The main message to stay safe is drive slowly.
