Sobriety Checkpoint This Saturday

Ovi Check

The State Highway Patrol plans to hold a sobriety checkpoint Saturday evening.

The patrol said the checkpoint will take place in Muskingum County with the exact location being announced Saturday morning.

Zanesville State Highway Patrol Post Commander Lieutenant Matt Boyd said last year there were 316 OVI related fatal crashes in which 346 people were killed.

Each year state troopers make on average 25,000 OVI arrests.

Lt. Boyd said the checkpoint is a way to deter impaired driving and a way to proactively remove these dangerous drivers from the roadways.

The checkpoint is funded by federal grants.
