“Social Studies Spectacular” Event
Local Social Studies teachers are taking a step back in time for one day.
The Muskingum Valley Educational Service Center held it’s first "Social Studies Spectacular" at the OU-Z campus.
Teachers got to take part in roundtable discussions, look at new resources available to them, interact with historian actors, and even see a Civil War cannon being shot.
"Social Studies teachers make it come alive. They bring history alive if they do dress up, and they do have good pictures and good materials, " says Director of Curriculum, Judy Vanvoorhis.
Some teachers were even able to travel to Cleveland and the state of Texas thanks to video conferencing.
"A lot of times, they are referring to that video conferencing as an electronic field trip. Basically, it’s the cost of your equipment along with the cost of the presentation, " says Curriculum Consultant, Kathy Morgan.
Morgan says video conferencing may soon replace field trips because it allows students to go anywhere while still staying in the comforts of the classroom.
