SOUPer Bowl Returns

Soup connoisseurs… Brace yourselves… The SOUPer Bowl is back.

The 19th annual fundraiser will benefit non-profits that provide food to the hungry everyday including the Eastside Community Ministry, Fellowship of Christ’s Community, Christ’s Table, The Salvation Army, and the Muskingum County Center for Seniors.

The more than 20 students at the Zane State Culinary Department will be getting a lesson in making massive meals.

“This is a big undertaking,” said Program Coordinator of the Culinary Department Marco Adornetto. “We have to do 25 gallons of vegetable soup, 25 gallons of chicken noodle soup, 25 gallons of potato cheddar soup and also 25 gallons of navy bean soup. So that’s like 100 gallons of soup that we have to do plus they’re doing like 110 pounds of sloppy joes and over 1,000 hot dogs. This going to be quite the event.”

With that much grub up for grabs the $5 advanced ticket is a steal and it’s just $6 at the door on Sunday. Addornetto said that not only will his students get the chance to see a chaotic kitchen in action, they’ll get to be a part of a community wide cause.

“There’s plenty of room for everybody and there won’t be 1,000 people here at once,” said Adornetto. “They’ll be coming and going all day and I hope they come in and sample the soups because it’s for a really great cause. ”

The SOUPer Bowl will start at 10 a.m. on Sunday until 2 p.m. and it will feature a silent auction and bake sale as well.
