South Zanesville Fire Fighters Resign

The Zanesville Fire Department is ready to help the South Zanesville Volunteer Fire Department after word some of the members resigned.

Zanesville Fire Chief Eric Waltemire said his crew will provide mutual aide in South Zanesville if needed, as part of their mutual aide contract. Village of South Zanesville Fiscal Officer, Chris Kerby, said Chief Norman Mansfield, the assistant chief, and captain, along with four other fire fighters resigned within the past 24 hours, following a disagreement with council.

Although there are still 13 other fire fighters on duty in South Zanesville, the department will receive mutual assists from other departments as needed. A firefighter still on staff at the South Zanesville department said Russel Taylor has been appointed interim chief until the election the first of the year.

The dispute remains under investigation.
