Spectrum donates to Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit

North ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Money was given to the dogs, the Muskingum County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit to be exact.
Spectrum donated $1,000 to the K-9 Unit after holding various fundraisers throughout November 2017. Lewis Linscott the Supervisor of Spectrum Billing said Spectrum tries to donate monthly to organizations in the community.
“We have a committee that’s a community committee is what we call it,” Linscott said. “Every month we look for initiatives on how we can help the community and this last month was K-9 Units. Someone had mentioned that K-9’s are expensive to maintain and we thought ‘you know what let’s surround it and let’s raise some money.”
Spectrum contacted the Sheriff’s Office earlier in November 2017 stating they would donate to the K-9 Unit, however they didn’t have a specific amount.
“Our Vice President was gracious enough to give items to auction off, as well as ice cream sales, and other fundraisers,” Linscott said. “Which skyrocketed the money donated to $1,000. It was great.”
Sheriff Matt Lutz accepted the check on behalf on the K-9 Unit. Currently the Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit has five dogs, with three being drug dogs and two being explosives trained.
“They were able to donate $1,000 today that will go into our donation fund and we use that for our K-9 division,” Sheriff Lutz said. “So obviously we take donations all the time from the community and that money is saved up to help take care of our current dogs and or go towards the purchase of a new dog when we’re ready for that.”
Sheriff Lutz thanked Spectrum for the donation towards the K-9 Unit. The donation will be saved and used when need be.
“It’s very expensive to replace those dogs, to pay for all the training, and for the handlers training,” Sheriff Lutz said. “So with the expense of that, they thought this would be a good spot for that donation.”
