Sponsor a Wreath to Honor a Veteran

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Wreaths Across America is an organization that works with communities across the country to honor military veterans for their service.

Wreaths Across America along with the Zanesville Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps holds a ceremony each holiday season that recognizes our local veterans with a wreath.

“This is going to be the 13th year that Wreaths Across America… We’ve held the service here in Muskingum County. This year again, it will be at Greenwood Cemetery, there at the Veterans Memorial Wall. It’s a time of the year where we pause to remember, honor and teach. And that’s the theme of Wreaths Across America, is to remember those who have gone before us, honor those who are still with us and teach future generations that freedom’s not free,” Wreaths Across America Location Coordinator Brad McCune said.

They are inviting the public to sponsor individual wreaths that will commend the many Muskingum County veterans who are represented on the cemetery’s wall.

“I’m in the J.R.O.T.C. and we help set up, prepare and place wreaths. Because they put in their time and effort to help us and help our country and everything,” Zanesville J.R.O.T.C. Cadet Sgt. Summer Ramey said.

The Wreaths Across America Ceremony will take place December 14th at the Greenwood Cemetery in Zanesville but the deadline to sponsor a wreath that honors a veteran is November 29th. The wreaths are $17 dollars and can be purchased by visiting the Zanesville High School J.R.O.T.C. web page, or  the Wreaths Across America website. If you prefer a more personal experience, you can visit  the Instructor, MAJ (R) James Delbrugge at Zanesville High School or by calling (740) 453-0335.
