St. James Church to Host Shrove Tuesday Dinner

ZANESVILLE, OH – A local church is getting ready to host a feast to prepare for the Lenten season.

St. James Episcopal Church will host their Shrove Tuesday Dinner, Feb. 13, from 4:30 to 6:30 PM.

Sherry Gillespie, one of the Co-Chairs for the Shrove Tuesday Dinner, said the Church has been hosting this dinner since the Civil War.

She also said this is the first time in 3 years that people will be able to dine in and enjoy their meal.

“It’s like hosting your family for a special dinner,” Gillespie said. “We try to treat the people that come in like they’re family and give them a nice sit down dinner.”

The dinner includes ham, cheesy potatoes, and green beans as well as the famous St. James pancakes for dessert.

Tickets for the dinner are $15, but children under the age of 12 who only want to enjoy some pancakes can eat for free with an adult meal purchase.

Gillespie said she just hopes everyone who attends enjoys a lovely evening of fellowship, along with a great meal.

“I hope this is preparing them for their Lenten season.” Gillespie said. “Just come for a really pleasant evening. We’re looking forward to seeing people that we haven’t seen in the last 3 years because of COVID.”

All of the proceeds raised from the dinner will go back to the Church.

Tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance through Venmo @stjamesecw.
