ZANESVILLE, Ohio-  local church is continuing to celebrate black history in a very unique way.

Sunday, St. Paul AME held their annual soul food fest that showcased culture through a variety of foods.

“What we have is our soul food luncheon where meals have been prepared that honor the delicacies of what our ancestors took and made into soul food. You have the collard greens, the pig feet and different meals like that. It’s just a celebration of that type of food that many of us grew up on,” said Clifton Kilpatrick, Pastor, ST. Paul AME Church.

Pastor Kilpatrick says events like these are imperative because for years the church has been hub from African Americans and the mainstay for that community.

“The church was the hub for people of color post reconstruction. The church was the gathering place not just for religious purposes, for training and education. many of the ancestors met each other in church. The church is a mainstay in the black community and still is so we want to continue that legacy,” said Pastor Kilpatrick.

Tickets were purchased for this luncheon and proceeds raised were donated to the advancement of the ministry.
