St. Thomas Rededicated
Zanesville,OH- It was a day of celebration Sunday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in downtown Zanesville.
A special mass took place to rededicate the church after it closed four and a half years ago due to structural issues.
The mass was celebrated by Bishop Earl Fernandes and ten priests representing the Diocese of Columbus and the Dominican order.
During the mass a prayer of dedication was recited, the altar was anointed and incensed and the lighting of the church occurred.
Bishop Fernandes and Father Dave Young both referenced the quality of the church being home and family.
Those who could not fit into the church Sunday watched a live-stream in the Activity Center. Over 500 people attended the mass.
This is not the first time St. Thomas has faced closure. In June 1912 a tornado sent the steeple crashing down through the roof of the church that tragedy was followed by the flood of 1913.
