Starlight Students Come Together for Fishing Tournament

Starlight School students came together Saturday afternoon for a day of fishing.

It was the 3rd annual Fishing Derby at the National Road Campground in Zanesville. Linda Leach of Starlight Programs, said the tournament is one of the most enjoyable events for the students each year.

“Margie Johnson, owner of the campground, provides this fishing derby for Starlight every year, free of charge to them, she just likes them to come out and have a good time and fish, and she provides lunch and it’s just a good way to get them all together, just to have fun, because a lot of times they just don’t get outings like this,” Leach said.

Several organizations from across the community sponsor and provide donations for the event. Leach said no matter how the students do, they all go home with something.

“We have prizes for biggest fish, most fish, we have first place, and then we have a second and third place, and no matter if they even catch a fish or anything they always go home with something, like this year Margie provided t-shirts for everybody who fishes,” Leach said.
