State Route 60 Serious Injury Accident
A two car accident with severe injuries occurred on State Route 60 Thursday evening.
It happened around 6PM at mile post 9 which is about a half mile north of Duncan Falls. The accident initially closed the highway in both directions. The southbound lane was re-opened at 6:45pm to let both sides of traffic pass. Lieutenant Matt Boyd of the Zanesville Post of the Highway Patrol explained what happened.
"The black SUV, it’s a Ford Explorer, was coming southbound on 60 and the black Chrysler 4 door behind us was facing southbound off of the west edge of the roadway. Our preliminary investigation indicates that the black Chrysler attempted to pull out onto the roadway to head back north. So it attempted to basically make a U-turn to go back north from in front of the driveway at the private residence over here and was struck by the Explorer."
3 individuals in the Chrysler and 2 in the SUV were transported to Genisis Good Samaritan Hospital. MedFlight was sent to the hospital to potentially transport one of the individuals involved to another hospital. All of the injuries are believed to be serious. Harrison Township Fire Department, Wayne Township Volunteer Fire Department, State Patrol and the Sheriff’s Office all responded to the scene. We’ll bring you more details as they become available.
