State Treasurer candidate stops in Zanesville

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – A candidate for Ohio Treasurer of State and made a stop in Zanesville to tell the community about his plans for the state if he is elected.
Robert Sprague said he has focused a lot on the heroin epidemic and wants to help improve the treatment system in Ohio. He also said it’s important for statewide candidates to get out and talk with people and the community you they can tell you exactly what they’re thinking about, and what needs to be improved.
“That’s where all of the great public policy ideas come from is people talking with their representative, talking with people from Columbus saying, look, this isn’t working and we need to do something different and I have an idea,” Sprague said.
Sprague said jobs are extremely important in Ohio and even though there has been an increase over the last several years, one of the issues that we have now is how do you increase wages across the state? He said it’s not just enough to have a job, you want to have a great career.
“So what we’re learning now is that we actually have a skills gap in the state of Ohio and the people that are willing to climb that skills gap and earn 60, 70, 80 thousand dollars a year and they don’t need to go to college to do it,” Sprague said.
Sprague wants to promote financial literacy for kids while they are still in high school and educate them on the job market to them to help avoid student loan debt and find success whether that be with a college degree or not.
Sprague will run against Democrat Rob Richardson in the November election.
