Stop-Loss Special Pay

The government is paying back soldiers who were involuntarily kept on active duty after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Those eligible will receive a monthly payment of $500 for each additional month or partial month they were retained after their end of service date.

"It’s for active and reserve between the months of September 11th, 2001 and September 30th, 2009," said Muskingum County Veteran’s Service Officer Larry Daniels.

Last October, Congress approved retroactive special pay under the 2009 Supplemental Appropriation Act.

"It’s under Title 10, and the maximum amount of time that individual can be stopped lossed under Title 10 is 24 months," said Daniels.

This program is not to be confused with the Ohio Veteran’s Bonus. Applications are being accepted until October 21st.
