‘Strike Out Breast Cancer’
A local bowling alley is supporting courageous patients battling cancer.
In the month of February the Zanesville USBC recognizes ‘Bowling for Breast Cancer’ this month they decided to have a 9-Pin no Tap Bowling tournament at Sunrise Strikes Bowling Alley. The event touches close to home for one local breast cancer survivor.
"In September of 2014 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. In October double mastectomy and the Sunrise Strikes Bowling Alley came together as a family and did a small benefit for me. I was so overwhelmed by that support. The one thing that my husband both said was that we wanted to make a difference. So I feel like that’s what we are doing here, we’re making a difference." said Tammy Ansberry- Hildenbrand, Vice President of Zanesville USBC WBA.
Those spearheading the event hope to see a new sense of awareness about breast cancer and maybe even save a life.
"If this event triggers somebody to think about the fact they haven’t had a mammogram in so long; that I feel like we have done our job. Because, early detection is the best way," said Ansberry-Hildenbrand.
This event is sponsored by Buffalo Wild Wings and the Zanesville Medical Center. The 1st through 4th place winners were awarded monetary prizes for their achievements.
All proceeds from this event will go to the new center at Genesis hospital.
