A structure fire on Pine Street  remains under investigation on Sunday.

Zanesville Fire Department Assistant Chief Doug Hobson said crews received the call just before midnight Saturday for a structure fire at 726 Pine Street.

“Upon arrival they completed a search and found the building completely unoccupied and found no utilities connected”, which Hobson said does make the fire suspicious in nature.

The flames took about 30 minutes to control but because the fire reached into the attic space crews spent more time controlling hot spots and embers. Hobson said the incident was complicated by cold temperatures which led to water freezing quickly and making it difficult for fire fighters to work safely.

Portions of Pine and Pershing remained closed until almost 4 a.m Sunday morning while ZFD waited for the city to salt roads whch had an inch of ice from water used to contain the fire.
