Students donate to students
ZANESVILLE, Ohio – Local students in an after school program received a book donation from other local students.
West Muskingum fifth graders held a book drive recently, so they could turn around and donate the books to various organizations. Students who attend The Civic League Center’s after school programs were given these books and asked to share them.
“We wanted everybody that donated a book to write their name in the cover,” West Muskingum teacher Amy Teyner said. “So we actually saw one of the girls open a book and it had one of our students name in it and told her to read and then pass it along to a friend. Keep those books going so they can enjoy tutoring after school and it’s not such a dull thing with boring books.”
Teyner said this donation was able to happen after she reached out to United Way of Muskingum, Perry, and Morgan Counties. Where they were put in contact with The Civic League Center.
“It’s really great to be the catalyst and have those community conversations here at the local level and build relationships and partnerships,” Resource Development Director of United Way of M.P.M. Katie McNeil said. “So that we can continue the fight for the youth in the local communities that we serve.
Teyner said throughout the year her students have grown and she hopes they’ll continue to keep giving back to the community.
“Everything that we’ve done, we’re tied to literature, we’re tied to writing projects, and hopefully they continue to want to do nice things for the community.”
