ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The very first Zanesville City Half Marathon took place the morning of Saturday September, 15th.

The weather was great for the supporters standing on the sides cheering but the runners definitely worked up a sweat. Hanna Luburgh, Race Director, said there was a great turnout with 550 participants in attendance.

“People have just been standing along. Cheering everybody on. It’s just been electric really. It’s awesome,” Luburgh said. “Yeah that’s what it was about. It was about bringing people downtown. Bringing people to the landing. Of course raising money for the wellness and recreation cornerstone.”

Luburgh said she hopes this is an event that continues to grow every year. Sister duo, Kathy Ervin and Kim Hartle, took part in the marathon.

“I thought it was great for the first year. Very well attended and I thought most of the course was shaded and it was great it started at 7 a.m. rather than 8 a.m. So it was very it was humid but luckily it was cool enough and wasn’t too bad,” Ervin said.

The sisters said they came out to walk the race and finished at 2 hours and 35 minutes. One thing they would like to see is a walking division and receive awards for that specifically, however they do look forward to next year’s Zanesville City half marathon.
