Sugar Prices Going Up
When you head to the store to do some grocery shopping over the next couple of weeks, you may begin to notice an increase in the price of sugar.
Pick ‘N’ Save store manager, Rich Daughtery, says his store hasn’t been affected by the increase just yet.
"We have our own warehouse. So, we did buy some sugar in prior to the increase. So, we are trying to maintain our prices as long as we can, but once we have to re-buy and the price goes up, we have to pass it on to the consumer, " says Daughtery.
It won’t just be sugar prices that go up.
"That will affect anything that’s sugar-based. Candy, syrups, anything, canned goods. A lot of canned goods have sugar, so that will affect prices on that again, " says Daughtery.
Daughtery says to expect close to a five percent increase in prices initially, and he says the increase could eventually lead to a shortage of sugar.
