Summer Reading returns to MCLS with events across all branches
ZANESVILLE, OH- The Muskingum County Library System is preparing to kick off its 2025 Summer Reading Program.
Each branch is hosting fun kickoff events during the first week of June. Families can enjoy games, face painting, hot dogs, chips, drinks, prizes, and even an ice cream truck.
“We’re very excited, summer reading is almost kicked off, and we have a whole week of kick off events coming up starting actually on May 31st and continuing through the entirety of the first week of June, and those are really great opportunities to be able to come in and register for Summer Reading, and were encouraging people right now to actually preregister for Summer Reading, so you can preregister for Summer Reading right now,” said Marketing and Community Relations Director Sean Fennell.
The program is for all ages. You can log books, time spent reading, and activities to earn badges and enter drawings for big prizes.
“Summer Reading is a really incredible time not only for public libraries but also its an important time for our school aged children to not participate in something we like to call the summer slide, which is where when you’re not engaged in every day learning and every day literacy, as they are in school, there is often an academic slide that happens throughout that summer and they back slide a little bit just because they are not practicing, so summer reading is a fun way to keep those skill up, to build your literacy skills, so that not only are you starting the school year not only where you left off at last year, but you’re also able to start it at an advantage as well,” said Fennell.
To join, visit the Muskingum Library website or sign up at any Muskingum County Library branches. You can also check the Muskingum County Library website to see when your local kickoff event is happening.
