Super Hero Donor Dinner

Local blood donors are being recognized for their contributions.

Youth Employment Services of the Zanesville Metropolitan Housing Authority hosted a "Super Hero Donor Dinner" Wednesday evening at the James Singer Activity Center.

"We just thought it’d be nice to recognize them and tell them how much we appreciate them coming out and to generate more people to come out and donate again so we can have another blood drive," said Y.E.S. Coordinator Jorinda Seyerle.

According to the Red Cross, every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood. By donating, you can help accident victims, burn victims, and also cancer patients. One pint of blood can save up to three lives.

"We are in an urgent need situation right now, where with some of our blood types we only have a half a day supply or less left, that if an emergency were to come up we’d be struggling to supply the blood," said Red Cross Representative Rick Dayton.

Dayton says that only 4% of the population donates blood even though 38% qualify.
