Support Small Business This Holiday Season
ZANESVILLE, Ohio-Â For those gearing up for Black Friday and Cyber Monday there is another shopping day you should add to the list.
Small Business Saturday is a lesser-known shopping day. The Saturday following Black Friday is geared strictly toward small businesses. The American Express Company started Small Business Saturday about six years ago. President of Zanesville Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce, Tom Poorman, encourages everyone to support local businesses.
“The national companies are going to do well, that’s not a problem, at this time of year,” Poorman said. “That’s good we want them to do well, but there’s room in people’s budgets to support small companies. There are some really unique gifts out there, and great holiday bargains that can be had at local, so there is no reason no to add that to your shopping mix.”
Small Business Saturday is also a way to recognize the accomplishments and contributions of small companies in the Untied States. Poorman said he wants our local businesses to do as well as the national companies.
“Most of the businesses in any community, and it’s true in our community are small businesses. Most of the membership of the chamber are small businesses. We have large companies too, we are grateful for their contributions to our local economy. But the small businesses employ about half of all people in the United States. So they’re paying a lot of taxes they are employing people, making real contributions all year long. One day like this can make a big contribution to their bottom line,” said Poorman.
Poorman said Small Business Saturday gains popularly every year.
