Susan E. Hayes, 59

Zanesville – Susan E Hayes, 59, of Nashport died Wednesday February 15th at 3:25pm in the comfort of her family after a 14 month battle with cancer.

She was born September 14, 1952, in Zanesville, she was a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Susan graduated from Bishop Rosecrans High School in 1970 and spent two years attending Ohio Dominican University. Most recently, Susan was honored for working 10 years at the Muskingum County Department of Job and Family Services. Susan had a deep faith in Jesus Christ and showed her faith through helping others during their time of need. She most enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially with her granddaughter, Emma.

Susan is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Justin Gates; her granddaughter, Emma and grandchild to be; her siblings Tim (Trish) Longstreth, Molly (Jerry) LaFond, Debby Michael, Sheri (Judd) Knecht, Dan Longstreth; and thirteen nieces and nephews.

Susan was preceded in death by her son, Michael Hayes; her parents, Ray and Martha Longstreth; and her sister, Ann Weaver.

Calling hours will be held 4-7pm on Sunday February 19th at the Hillis & Hardwick Funeral Home, 935 Forest Ave. with Christian Vigil being held at 6:30pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am Monday February 20th at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Burial will be at Mount Olive Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to a scholarship fund in memory of her son, Michael, to help those with medical needs at Miami University; The Michael Hayes Scholarship Fund c/o Miami University.
