Technology recycle at the library

ZANESVILLE, Ohio- Muskingum County Library System wants people to make recycling technology part of their spring cleaning.
People can come to John McIntire Library from now until Monday, April 30th and recycle most of your old and outdated technology for free. Emerging Technology Assistant Jeremy Norris said this program is part of the library’s Earth Day celebration.
“It takes a special process to recycle technology, a lot of the internals on these are toxic. So everything you are going to recycle would pretty much end in a landfill,” said Norris.
Norris said the library can’t accept large appliances and tube TV monitors. He said recycling your electronics with the library will not only help the environment but it will also keep your information safe.
“Accurate IT, the company that’s doing this recycling the hard drives that would be on your computer, this company actually erases them. So, none of your information will be on them,” said Norris.
John McIntyre Library will also have a free Virtual Reality program Saturday April 21st from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. A VR expert will bring his professional equipment for people to try first hand.
