Telling the Story of Jaycee Golf Course

ZANESVILLE, OH – Every golf course has a story, and one local man is making sure the story of Zanesville’s Jaycee Golf Course will live on in print.
Jim Boyd is the author of “Birth, Death, and Resurrection of a Golf Course.” The book highlights more than 150 years of history, starting with Harry Mangold’s country club and continuing through today’s Jaycee Public Golf Course.
“It’s a great American story about a young boy off the farm, who came to Zanesville.” Author, Jim Boyd said. “It’s about the history of that and the history of the Jaycees which I ended up doing because they didn’t really have a written history, so that’s included. It’s just a great place for public golf at our Jaycee Golf Course. From 1948 or 9, really until the 70’s, it was the only public golf course in Zanesville.”
The book will be in full color, with over 200 pages and more than 80 pieces of original artwork by local artists. Community support will help cover the cost of the first 250 copies. Sponsors will also be recognized in the book and in local promotions.
“As a historian, it’s an untold story.” Boyd said. “This story is about local people because I’m from here, I’ve been here my whole life. This is a special part of the country, and I want people to realize that and be proud of where we are.” Boyd said.
