ZANESVILLE, Ohio- President Trump declared Thursday, March 29th as  National Vietnam War Veterans Day as a way to say thank you to our Vietnam War Veterans.

In recognition of the event, the Muskingum Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution will be honoring Vietnam Veterans on the steps of the Zanesville Courthouse at 9 A.M. There will be a ceremony for the Vets and their families. Senator Troy Balderson  will also be speaking at the event.

“We always need to be thankful for the Veterans that gave their time to serve our country because we’re safe and we’re able to do what we want and say what we want because of them,” said member Caribeth Legats.

Legats said the soldiers who fought in that war deserved a thank you a long time ago and now it’s finally coming.

“We’re 50 years late saying thank you, to be honest, and I grew up in during the Vietnam War. And these men were drafted into the service, they served their country, and then they returned home to be spat upon and never thanked,” said Legats.

In case of rain, the event will be moved to the American Legion in Downtown Zanesville. There will be a breakfast provided for all those honored in the ceremony and their families.
