The 51st Crooksville Roseville Plate Breaking Ceremony

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The opening celebration for the 51st Crooksville- Roseville Pottery Festival took place Thursday with a Plate Breaking Ceremony and Auction.

Acting Director of the Clay Center of Ohio, Dale Hague said they have 12 plates that are specially made commemorating one of the local potteries each year and this year they are commemorating Alpine Pottery.

“I turned the plates on the potters wheel and the owner of Alpine Pottery decorated them for us,” said Hague. “We auction 10 of them and we auction them off in order from 1 to 10 and we see each year some of them are bought by the same individuals each year.”

The plate was broke by the 2015 Pottery Festival Queen. Hague said she was accompanied by their board member, Kent George and the festival Chair Person, Molly Fisher.

“It’s a lot of work to keep going and it’s helpful to have this many people come and support us just by their presence. The money of course helps too. But, to have people come is a very good thing,” said Hague.

All proceeds from the event go towards keeping the Clay Center of Ohio open to the public.
