Your Summer Adventure Begins at Your Library
ZANESVILLE, OH – Summer vacation is here and that means it’s time again for summer reading.
The 2024 Muskingum County Library System Summer Reading Program, “Adventure Begins in Your Library”, kicked off on June 1st and will go until July 31st.
Haley Shaw, the Youth Services Manager at the John McIntire Library said the summer reading program is important not just for students but also adults.
“Summer Reading is important for everyone, it’s open to all ages, we love that everybody participates and gets involved,” Shaw said. “It’s really important because for kids, it helps them combat what is called the “summer slide”, where they lose part of what they learned during the school year before the next school year starts, so getting them reading is really important. For adults, it’s actually really great too because we don’t always make time to read or don’t realize how much we’re spending time reading and so being able to encourage adults to read too, get them excited about it.”
Shaw says some of the milestone prizes include free Frosty’s and limited edition library swag.
She says as you earn those milestone achievements, you will also receive raffle tickets to be entered into the grand prize drawing at the end of the program.
“As you read, you’ll earn raffle tickets which you can enter to win the big grand prizes,” Shaw said. “We will have cool stuff like a camping tent to tie into our adventure theme, we have tickets to COSI, we have a Kindle E-Reader for kids that comes with some books on it, we have Legos, Escape Rooms in a Box games, and everyone’s favorite, the Nintendo Switch Lite that we give away.”
