The Animal Shelter Society, a cat named Tiger, and the Barn Cat Program

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – This week’s pet of the week at the Animal Shelter Society can be a working man through the Barn Cat Program.
Tiger has been at the Animal Shelter Society for two years and is one of ten cats in the barn cat program. He’s not a fan of being held but loves affection. Tiger is neutered, microchipped, and fully vaccinate. He’s look for a new home and is willing to put the work in as pest control.
“… I think he has a lot to give back. And so, part of the barn program, he didn’t come from someone’s home. He came from the streets of our community and he would be able to be in a barn, in a workshop, in a garage and he could do his job and he would be happy and then so would you,” said April Gibson, the executive director of the Animal Shelter Society.
Gibson says that you still need to feed your working cat and it won’t get in the way of their hunting instinct. In order to support the care of animals like Tiger, the Animal Shelter Society is gearing up for their Wicked Whiskers fundraising event this Saturday.
“It’s kind of on the lines of the Feral Felines, it’s a lady’s brunch, 10 (a.m.) to 1 (p.m.). Angela Bailey and her group, team, down at the Taste of Ohio has been excellent, so easy to work with. So, it is going to be this Saturday the 24th, again from 10 to 1,” Gibson said. “You can come in a costume or you can be like me, show up in cat ears.”
You can learn more about how to adopt a pet like Tiger or the Wicked Whiskers Ladies Sing Along Brunch by visiting their website. Reservations are required for the event and you can reserve your spot with a $30 donation. The fundraiser is sponsored by Park National Bank.
