The Animal Shelter Society Announces Baxter as Pet of the Week

Pet Of The Week, Baxter

ZANESVILLE, Ohio – This week’s Animal Shelter Society pet of the week is Baxter!

Even though favorites are not allowed within the shelter, Baxter happens to be just that for the general manager, April Cohagen-Gibson.

Baxter is an 11-year-old Labrador Retriever, but his age does not slow him down a bit. He is very well trained and will also do well with any type of family.

“Even when he has the meet and greets everybody loves him. His energy is great, he does great with families, young kids, but as soon as they hear that age, they don’t want to adopt him. He has a lot to offer. He’s very healthy, he’s ready to go and one of the big things that we have to be very clear about is that Baxter can not be around cats. It would be a very sad situation,” Cohagen-Gibson stated.

To support dogs like Baxter and the other animals, the community can make donations at the Bee Clean Express Auto Wash on Maysville Avenue for a free car wash, with all proceeds going towards the Working Wonder Women, a union of six nonprofit organizations led by women.

“When you come through there for that free car wash and you can donate to the WWW into our causes, it helps us keep someone like Baxter for that long period of time, for that extra veterinary care, for that maybe extra training, the extra staffing that we bring in for him. So that’s what that goes towards,” Cohagen-Gibson said. “It’s very important and we can not thank our community and we can not thank Bee Clean Express Car Wash for even thinking about us. It’s such an honor to even be considered.”

Cohagen-Gibson said residents can make a donation during the free car wash week from March 4th to the 13th.

She also said it is vital that those interested in adopting Baxter do not have a cat and can schedule a meet and greet by contacting the shelter or filling out an application online at animalsheltersociety.org.
