The Better Business Bureau Protects Offers Tips for Game Day

Whether you watch the Buckeyes in person or watch your high school team from home, scams and shady business dealings will try to get your money.

Judy Dollison from the Better Business Bureau of Central Ohio talks about some of the scams and predatory business practices to keep an eye out for on game day.

“We know that there’s a lot of excited fans getting ready to go to those home games. So, what we just warned is that you be careful when you’re looking for that place to park. Because there are predatory towing companies who are really trying to maximize their profit during this increased parking demand and sometimes they’ll make private deals with owners of parking lots that will result in you being towed without you realizing it is a tow-away zone. ”

Dollison recommends that you plan ahead and look up where to park and where the tow-away zones are to avoid ruining that game day high. Watching the game from home however can also bring risks.

“What we found was that scammers were setting up fake streaming sites. You could see them a lot through social media links. You might be searching for that game that you’re not able to attend and you see it on a social feed and you click on the link, takes you to a site, when you put in your credit card information. And then a day or two later when the game is suppose to start, you log in and you have no access. That’s because it was a scam all along and they’re just there to take your money.”

The best way to avoid streaming service scams is to call the team or school to confirm they have a streaming deal or look up the website on the BBB’s website. You can also report scam’s on the BBB’s site to protect others from scams you’ve run into.
