The City of Zanesville Observes ‘Arbor Day’
The City of Zanesville was recognized as a ‘Tree City USA’ on Wednesday, April 20th at the Southeast Ohio Awards Ceremony.
Following the award, the city observed ‘Arbor Day’ Thursday morning with a tree planting ceremony on north 6th street, between Bryan’s Place and Linn Engineering. Lisa Davis, said this event also marks the 19th straight year that Zanesville has been honored with this nationally recognized award.
“Every year we have to apply for that award and it has to be graded and we planted enough trees, spent enough money on trees throughout the community, had volunteer hours shade tree commission and we are approved as a tree city USA. Actually, Ohio is number 1 in the country for having the most communities that are ‘Tree City USA,” said Davis.
This is Davis’s first year being apart of the Shade Tree Commission for the city of Zanesville. She said it’s important to continue beautifying the community because she wants our city to be appealing to not only the locals but also to those who are visiting.
“Well trees are very important of course they add beauty, they add property value increases and everybody loves beautiful trees for shade and they just really add a lot to your neighborhoods and communities, they’re definitely important.”
Arbor Day is Friday, April 29th.
