NEWARK, OH – Maple lovers, get ready to tap into something sweet.

The Dawes Arboretum is celebrating its 60th Annual Maple Syrup Day on February 22nd from noon to 4 p.m. Guests can sample different syrups, take a guided walk along the Maple Syrup Trail, and watch live tree-tapping demonstrations to see how the sweet staple is made.

“It’s going to be a great day to celebrate 60 years. We’re really looking forward to celebrating all of the history elements of Dawes and with this being the 60th year of Maple Syrup, it’s significant to us.” Executive Director, Stephanie Crockatt said.

Visitors can also step inside the historic log cabin for syrup tastings and enjoy crafts at the Visitor Center.  A food truck will also be on site serving up sweet treats.

“Normally we have done a variety of maple syrups and maple syrup-like products. This year, we’re adding in hickory syrup. You’re going to be able to compare the two.” Peter Lowe, the Garden Programs Manager said. “We’ve got crafts inside; we’ve also got a food truck coming out called Sips & Sticks. They’ve got waffles on a stick and they’re also making specialty drinks just for that weekend.”

The event takes place at The Dawes Arboretum in Newark. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids, and free for children 5 years old and under. You can find more information on The Dawes Arboretum website.
