ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Muskingum County YMCA is flexing its newly remodeled wellness floor. After being closed for two weeks, the wellness floor reopened with new flooring and new equipment. Tyler McDade, the executive director of the local YMCA, talks about how excited members were when they saw the floor reopen.

“They were very excited to see the new flooring, the upgraded equipment and, you know, just seeing all their faces and excitement was probably the best part,” McDade said. “The old equipment that we had was past its life cycle, and it was here when the building was first built in 2012/2013. To be truthful, some of that stuff actually came from before the facility was even built from Genesis and Bethesda. So it was just time to make some upgrades.”

The wellness floor is where the indoor track, strength equipment, and cardio equipment can be found. According to McDade, the wellness floor isn’t the only part of the YMCA seeing improvements.

“We’re actually in the midst of updating our teen center, or creating our teen center. The Straker Foundation was nice enough to give us a grant to offer that in our facility. So that’ll be our programmatic space for teens and rec space as well for them to go for membership uses,” McDade said. “And then, we have some other plans to upgrade the other equipment throughout the upcoming years. Cardio equipment and some other pieces of free weights and things like that. ”
