NEWARK, Ohio– Saturday in Newark the community came together to thank veterans and fallen soldiers for their service and sacrifice.

760 flags were placed in honor of soldiers that loss their lives in the battle field. The Friendship Club of Licking County, The Licking County Veterans Service Commission, and area sponsors brought the Ohio Flags of Honor to Licking County. Saturday is day two of the three day event, which took place at Cherry valley Elementary School in Newark.

“That flag is not just a name,” Friendship Club of Licking County President Janice Wilkin said. “It represents a person. It represents a young man who has gone into a battle field and not come home. There are families that are effected all over Ohio. These are just Ohio young men.”

Wilkin hopes this event will serve as a reminder that the freedom we all enjoy comes at a cost. The event will conclude with a closing ceremony that will take place tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. at West Main 30th Street.
