The Pottery Lovers Show and Sale Returns to Zanesville this Weekend

ZANESVILLE, OH – Pottery experts will prop open their hotel room doors at the Holiday Inn Express and welcome in potential buyers to observe their art.

The Pottery Lover’s Show and Sale is an annual shopping experience taking place in Zanesville.

Zanesville’s history as the pottery capital of the world makes it the ideal spot for collectors and sellers to celebrate their love for the art with this four day long sale. It’s an especially perfect spot for collectors like Patti Bourgeois, who collect pieces made in Ohio.

“Most of it is actually made right here in Zanesville proper, which I think many people get surprised by, especially younger generations because they don’t know about all of the history with the potteries,” Bourgeois said. “But way back in the day there were about 454 potteries in Zanesville proper.”

Though the room sales officially begin on July 10, dealers began setting up and selling as early as Wednesday morning. The sales will continue every day until July 12, where sales will come to an end at 2 p.m. Other events pottery enthusiasts can attend at the sale include seminars led by speakers such as Riley Humler, the current president of the American Art Pottery Association. The sale will include a show and tell on July 10, with featured food and coffee bars throughout the sale as well.

“I’ve been coming here, I’ve been setting up in a hotel room just like this with lots and lots of pots and it’s really the most fun show I do the entire year,” Bourgeois said. “It’s the last one I think I would ever give up because it really is fun. There’s many of us who come in who really just celebrate each other’s finds and when someone adds a piece that they’ve been waiting for 20 years to find, it’s really a wonderful thing and we all enjoy that.”

All of 32 of the pottery dealers should be set up and ready to sell by Thursday, July 10. For more information about the sale, visit potterylovers.org.
