The Salvation Army Offers Warming Station

ZANESVILLE, Ohio-Â Winter has officially arrived with temperatures dipping into the teens, many will be turning up the heat. But what about those who aren’t as fortunate?
The Salvation Army in Zanesville is opening its doors and extending an invitation to those needing a place to warm up. The warming station is located at The Salvation Army’s gym from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Program Director Dustin Redmond said all you need to do is come sign in and enjoy the heat, hot chocolate, and coffee. Redmond said people can stay in the warming station for up to an hour at a time.
“Just imagine being out there in the cold. I go to my car and it’s miserable for 10 minutes. Well people are walking for hours. So we do try to make sure that they stay warm. When they come in we do give hats, gloves, and scarf. That’s the things we’re trying to come up with as well. To make sure that when they come there they get warm. But when they go out they go out with that they need. Rather than just going right back in the cold, we try to make sure that the kids and the adults stay warm when they go back out, ” said Redmond.
Redmond said the generosity of the community makes this all possible.
“Because of The United Way, The Red Cross, and different organizations that help contribute to the salvation army we are able to open our doors. It’s a good thing. We do give thanks to god without him nothing is possible. We do want to give thanks him for making it possible to be able to open our doors and turn our lights on. And be able to help the community in need. And definitely thanks for the community who does donate to The Salvation Army to make it possible to make a difference to the community of Zanesville,” said Redmond.
The Salvation Army is located on Putnam Avenue.
