The Walk to End Alzheimer’s returns to the area for the sixth year

ZANESVILLE, OH- The Central Ohio Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association held their sixth annual Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Zane State College earlier today.

The annual walk in Zanesville is only one of 600 walks that happen around the United States for the association.

“This disease effects seven million people across the country and it is a disease that some people don’t want to talk about, so it is really important for people to come together to feel comfortable talking about their connection to the disease, it’s really important for people to understand the disease to get a diagnosis at an early stage, there are now treatments that can help slow down the disease but only in the early stages, so it’s very critical that people understand the disease and get a diagnosis,” said Central Ohio Alzheimer’s Association Executive Director, Vince McGrail.

With 208 participants today they were able to raise over $49,000 to help further the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association.

“We come back to Zanesville every year at this time, we’ve had it here at the college for several years now and we will be back here next year, it’s just amazing what these people have done to raise money, we have had people that have raised $500, $1,000, $8,000, it’s amazing what people do to support this cause,” said McGrail.
