Thelma Marie Baughman (June 5, 1922 – January 24, 2014)
Thelma Marie Baughman, nee Newsom, died Jan 24, 2014 at the age of 91, following a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Earl (Bill) Baughman, her daughters Leona Carol and Eleanor; her sisters Erma, Esther, and Helen; her brothers Ralph, Lee, Homer, Lawrence and Harry; and granddaughter Tia.
Thelma was born June 5, 1922 in Zanesville, OH. She attended the Zanesville schools, and after working a variety of jobs, she retired from Brockway Glass.
As much as she loved her job, she loved her family more. Holidays and summers were a wonderful excuse to get as many of her friends, siblings, children, grandchildren and beyond into her house to enjoy the dinners, conversations, games and – best of all – cookies. Hundreds of cookies went from her oven at Christmas to offices, postal workers, old friends, out of town relatives, and every available kitchen counter space ready for anyone dropping by. Thelma loved music at least as much as she did cooking, and if any of her family was onstage, she could be counted on to be an appreciative and enthusiastic audience member.
Thelma will be missed by the many who have known her smile, her quiet and unassuming support, and her ability to see the good in every person and situation. She is survived by her daughter Norma Lou Babb, sons Ron (Sandy) and Carl (Becky) Baughman; 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 17 great-great-grandchildren; and sisters Hazel and Blanche.
Calling hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 on Wednesday January 29, 2014 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD ZANESVILLE. Funeral services will be at 1pm on Thursday January 30, 2014 in the Snouffer Chapel with Pastor Marc Caton officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Genesis Hospice Care, 713 Forest Ave, Zanesville, OH 43701.
